Concert with introductory lecture Speaker: Dr. Klaus Harer, German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe. Potsdam With Sarah Wieck (1st violin), Miriam Röhm-Wieck (violin), Emanuel Wieck (viola), Ofer Canetti (violoncello)
Since the 1920s, the "Königsberger Streichquartett" has been one of the best string ensembles in Germany. Its repertoire ranged from classical works to contemporary composers such as Paul Hindemith, Béla Bartók, Arnold Schönberg and Otto Besch. The quartet, which included
August Ewers (violin), Kurt Wieck (violin), Hedwig Hulisch-Wieck
(viola) and Hermann Hoenes (cello), was regularly engaged for radio concerts and made guest appearances in Königsberg, Berlin, Danzig and Zoppot, among other places. After the National Socialists came to power, the orchestra was disbanded because the violist Hedwig Hulisch-Wieck came from a Jewish family. The last recorded radio broadcast in which the Königsberg String Quartet played Mendelssohn's String Octet op. 20 took place on January 23, 1933.
Concert with music-historical introduction by Dr. Klaus Harer, in cooperation with the German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe, Potsdam. The program includes the String Quartet in A minor op. 13 by Felix Mendelssohn.
Performers: Sarah Wieck (1st violin), Miriam Röhm-Wieck (violin), Emanuel Wieck (viola), Ofer Canetti (violoncello).
