Lecture by Rolf Bidlingmaier at the Württembergischer Geschichts- und Altertumsverein.
The lecture traces the history of the Retti family from northern Italy, whose representatives came to Württemberg as painters, plasterers and master builders for the construction of Ludwigsburg Palace. As a Rococo architect, Leoold Retti (1704-1751) was instrumental in the construction of the residence of the Macgraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach in Ansbach and the New Palace in Ludwigsburg. Descendants switched to the theater and worked in various places in Germany. Family connections lead to the Jewish journalist and art historian Dr. Ludwig Goldstein, the conductor Erich Orthmann and the well-known actresses Rosa Albach-Retty and Romy Schneider.
