Censorship in the performing arts under totalitarian regimes had a great influence on the theater aesthetics of the 20th century.

The Citizen.KANE.Kollektiv and Centrul Replika ask themselves what unconscious patterns and hidden memories censorship and repression have left behind? What methods and tools can we take from past experiences against possible censorship in the future?

Centrul Replika's play "Nostalgia Up & Down" will encourage the audience to discover cultural, political and social paradoxes and to engage with different forms and degrees of nostalgia. In their performance "White Elephants", the Citizen.KANE.collective then asks whether a repetitive form of censorship would appear as a tragedy or a farce in our near future.

An exhibition, lectures and live interviews with contemporary witnesses and experts will accompany the performances of the double theater production.
