Miriam Ast Trio 'Tales & Tongues' - bold and intense

Ast, who lived in London for six years, presents arrangements of European folk songs with Tales & Tongues (Unit Records). Shaken by Brexit in the UK and nationalist developments in Germany in recent years, Ast wants to set an important example for cultural openness and diversity.

Together with cellist Veit Steinmann and pianist Daniel Prandl, she creates bold soundscapes in which song compositions are interwoven with intense improvisations. "Ast manages the feat [...] of sounding authentic both as an interpreter of folk music and as a jazz singer." (Jazzpodium)

Das letzte Känguru - inspiring and confident

Das letzte Känguru was founded in 2014 - 11 years and 44 concerts later, the ensemble is still exploring the limits of this instrumentation and impresses with its varied and inspired music-making. This ensemble is characterized by playfulness, openness and delivery in the moment.

A Kangaroo concert is like a journey through foreign worlds: full of inspiration, new discoveries and surprising twists and turns. You have to leave your comfort zone to make exciting encounters and get to know unknown beauty. And when we look back, this is exactly what makes up for some of the hardships we have endured.

In 2014, Jochen Rückert wrote about the ensemble: "Das letzte Känguru" elegantly navigate around the common saxophone trio pitfalls.

The last kangaroo manages this more confidently and serenely than ever, bouncing powerfully and energetically through the country.

Christoph Beck (tenor sax), Sebastian Schuster (bass/loops) and Felix Schrack (drums) are now part of the established German jazz scene and have continued to develop with their own projects in recent years. However, "Das letzte Känguru" runs like a red ribbon through the creative work of these three exceptional musicians.
