Reading and discussion
Doris Dörrie, celebrated filmmaker and author, talks about her life as a dweller. She never wanted to settle down, establish herself, put down roots, but she was fascinated by how others live, how they set themselves up in the world in a double sense. She goes on house tours in California, and on her travels to Japan, Mexico, Morocco, America and southern Europe she sees how closely living is linked to the respective culture and time. And in her work as a filmmaker, she becomes an expert in the creation of artificial living environments. But while she describes her own parental home, the shared flats and the experimental life in the country, one question keeps coming to light: where is the space for women in these houses and apartments? Parallel to her film work, Doris Dörrie has published children's books, short stories, novels and autofiction as well as a book about writing entitled "Leben, schreiben, atmen" (Living, Writing, Breathing) - to mark the occasion, she is integrating a mini writing unit about living into the evening for the audience. Pen and paper at the ready!
